The Texas Longhorns’ Early Signing Period took center stage on Wednesday.
But there was still work to be done before their January 1 date in New Orleans for the College Football Playoff semifinal against the Washington Huskies.
Fortunately, the Horns have plenty of time to heal following a valiant regular season finale in which important players like Austin Jordan, Xavier Worthy, and Ryan Watts battled injuries. That game is still 12 days away.
Sarkisian provided an update on the condition of all three of those players during his post-signing day press conference, sounding quite positive about their present state of recovery.
“I thought they all looked really good,” Sarkisian remarked. “Are they all really at 100%? I’m not sure. They appear quick, I know that. They were frolicking in the air. Given that the game is still two weeks away, that’s a huge plus.”
“I think everything’s trending the right way on that front, and they were going,” Sarkisian stated. That’s a good portion. We’re fortunate that I believe everyone will be present for the game. We should be able to get everyone back in a month.
A real positive indeed, particularly in the case of Jordan and Watts, who should be available to reinforce the Longhorns’ secondary against arguably the best passing attack in the country. It is also huge in the case of Worthy, who had been noticeably battling ankle and lower body issues over the last couple of weeks of the season, to the point where he had to be helped to the locker room both vs. Texas Tech in the regular season finale, and in the Big 12 title game vs. Oklahoma State.
