Guard Kevin McCullar of the Kansas Jayhawks is in a challenging circumstance. It becomes more difficult for KU to win each game he misses because of a bone bruise. Although it’s obvious that he and the team want him to play, he has much more on the line, including his NBA Draft stock. Playing despite an ailment, McCullar finished his last four games with one of his worst shooting performances of the year. Bill Self, the coach of Kansas University, first reported the guard’s bruised bone during the Cincinnati game.
To what extent was it bad? Throughout the last four games, McCullar’s field goal percentage was a pitiful 37%. An NBA Draft assessor on a national level once even questioned The Star What is Kevin’s problem? McCullar was selected at number 23 in Bleacher Report’s most recent mock draft, a respectable drop from the previous version’s pick at number 17. Some sites have even made fun of him being chosen in the NBA lottery prior to this run of bad luck.
It appears that McCullar will play against Oklahoma, but the most crucial question that both he and Kansas should be asking is if he is truly healthy. More is at risk than only KU’s hopes of winning the Big 12 title at this time. It could cost him millions of dollars to rush him back.
