“YOU ARE THE WORSE COACH I EVER MET” Star player disparaging The Storm head coach Craig Bellamy

Nothing compares to seeing Ryan Papenhuyzen in action, tearing past situations to give it a shot.

In the first official trial of the season, the Storm lost 24–12 to Canterbury on Thursday night at Belmore Sportsground. Papenhuyzen did just that shortly before halftime.Attacking a Jonah Pezet kick from the scrum, the Storm fullback—who has endured a nightmarish season of injuries and concussions over the last three years—pounced.

“I’m glad I’m no longer going on nudie runs,” Papenhuyzen remarked.

“Pezet is a really gifted young man, and I knew he could execute that kick; all I had to do was land the final blow.”

“I feel incredibly fast. I reached 94% of my maximum speed from 2018, when I weighed 60 kg. I weigh 83 kilos now. I’m not sure whether that’s my new maximum speed, but I feel extremely certain that I can reach it at this point. It’s simply pleasant. It’s unclear if Papenhuyzen will require a second trial against the Knights in Fiji the following week.

When facing the Dogs, head coach Craig Bellamy first intended to play Papenhuyzen for 40 minutes before keeping him on the ice.

There were several positives for Canterbury, such as the 45-minute hitout by halfback Drew Hutchison and new fullback Blake Taaffe, as well as the try scored by Bronson Xerri, the team’s own comeback kid.
