Bill Self Released for the First Time at Kansas; Jayhawks Suffer Largest Loss Since 1950.
Kansas coach Bill Self was ejected in the second half of their 79-50 road loss to Texas Tech.
Self was ejected for the first time in his 21 seasons as Jayhawks coach. He saved his outburst at the officiating crew for the team’s worst loss since 1950.
The ejection occurred with 5:49 remaining in regulation after a series of foul calls went against his team.
Self addressed his ejection during the postgame press conference.
“I did not curse him.” I did not yell. But I did say a magic word, I believe, several times, which earned me a couple of technicals,” Self explained. “I wasn’t trying to be thrown out. But, you know, the way things [were] with the game, I honestly believe it’s not being called what it deserves to be called. It makes no difference to me whether the outcome is in our favour or their favour. That was frustrating, but I had felt it all year. So, good officials are good officials. I just don’t see it the way it’s being described.”
