Sad News: The Dragons are distraught since crucial player has a horrific injury

Tyrell Sloan of the Dragons has suffered another serious setback in his battle with Zac Lomax for the St. George number one shirt.

Sloan had a syndemosis injury during the Koori Knockout last month, but new Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has confirmed the incumbent fullback has subsequently broken his thumb.

“We’ve had a major, major hiccup with him suffering a syndesmosis in the (Koori) Knockout, which is unfortunate, and then he broke his thumb so everything I had planned for him in early December went out the window, but we’ll get there,” Flanagan said in an interview with NRL.com.

“He’s a good learner and he does look good at the moment – he’s put on a bit of weight because he hasn’t been running – but he has a lot of work from an education perspective.”

Sloan is anticipated to return to practice in mid- to late-December.

In an ideal scenario, Flanagan believes Sloan will be the Dragons’ Round 1 starter at fullback, but the premiership-winning coach has stated that Lomax will be given a chance to prove himself.

Lomax has established himself as one of the Dragons’ most deadly offensive weapons, but Flanagan is willing to attempt anything to give his team the best chance of winning.

This might entail switching Sloan and Lomax during games, like Flanagan did while he was coaching the Sharks.
