Patriots star slapped with fine as NFL announce punishment

Veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy and veteran safety Adrian Phillips have been dismissed by the New England Patriots, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Guy, who joined the Patriots in 2017, finished 2023 with 38 tackles. Joining New England in 2020, Phillips finished the previous season with 17 tackles.

In 2024, Guy will enter the last year of a four-year, $11.5 million contract. The 33-year-old should have little trouble breaking into a squad even though he won’t be playing for the Patriots in 2019.

Like Guy, Phillips will probably find a new home shortly as he enters the final year of a three-year, $12.75 million contract next year.Following his departure, Guy congratulated the Patriots on social media for the seven years he worked with them. In 2019, Guy helped lead New England to a Super Bowl.

He scrawled, “Thank you New England,” on X. “Thank you for always opening your arms to my family and me over the past seven years. You have made us feel at home and have had a positive impact on the community we build, the people we meet, and the communities we touch.” I’m eager to follow this trip and see where it leads.”

Throughout his 13-year NFL career, Guy has established himself as a reliable player. To build on this accomplishment, he will soon be seeking a new team to join.
