BREAKING NEWS: Is this star player leaving?

It’s always unclear if the Philadelphia Flyers will decide to hold onto its best players or trade them away before the deadline in order to start a rebuild. Even if the odds are still 50/50, let’s make some assumptions in case they decide to sell at the deadline and try to rebuild the squad.

Having said that, this piece does not presuppose that the Flyers will be sellers; rather, it offers a few scenarios in the event that they choose to trade players in the coming weeks. We’ve heard Sean Walker mentioned frequently, so if general manager Daniel Briere sells, there’s a significant chance he won’t be in the City of Brotherly Love. Walker might very well fetch more than a fair return for the Flyers if he is traded, particularly if he ends up with the second team on the list. However, Teams 1 and 3 might potentially overpay for Walker because he might be the last piece missing from their respective teams’ legitimate long playoff runs.

Walker is still a vital player for the Flyers beyond this season, but it isn’t the most likely scenario for Philadelphia that he becomes an unrestricted free agency and demands more money, possibly even a four-year agreement. They can let Walker leave and still get something for him by dealing him for future assets and picks. Walker will turn 29 this season. Expect a good number of clubs to enter the sweepstakes given his experience, but as previously mentioned, three stand out more than the others.
