Only a few days after the Wests Tigers announced the addition of Jarome Luai from the Panthers, Scott Fulton has verified reports that he was fired. The Daily Telegraph claims that interim Tigers CEO Shane Richardson called Fulton to tell him his services were no longer needed at the club, and that’s how the decision was made.
Former CEO Justin Pascoe controversially appointed Fulton to the position last year. However, Tim Sheens, the coach at the time, was not consulted before the appointment was made. Warren McDonnell, Sheens’ longtime head of recruitment, departed the team shortly after Fulton was hired.
Since then, Sheens has also left, and Benji Marshall has assumed the position of head coach. Marshall was Sheens’ assistant when Fulton was hired, and although he was being prepared to succeed Sheens at the time, Marshall was not informed of the decision to recruit him.
