A very sad injury update from Lions

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell swiftly assuaged any concerns regarding left tackle Taylor Decker’s availability. The veteran offensive lineman missed Wednesday’s practice due to a groin ailment, but Campbell said it was just a precaution.

“He’s OK. “He’s fine,” Campbell stated. “He’ll be there.” We’re just being cautious around him.”

This is definitely wonderful news for the Lions, who will need all hands on deck against the Dallas Cowboys defense, namely Micah Parsons. The two-time All-Pro is presently tied for sixth in the NFL with 13.0 sacks and tops in the NFL in pressures (according to PFF).

The Lions are anticipated to have their full starting lineup on the offensive line, which has been one of the best in the NFL, with Decker on board. The Lions have allowed 29 sacks (tied for fifth fewest in the league) and rank fourth in PFF pass blocking grade.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who is currently on injured reserve but in his second week of practice, was also updated by Campbell. The Lions coach was unsure whether Gardner-Johnson will be activated for this week’s game against Dallas.

“He’s even better this week than he was last week.” He appears to be in good shape. “It’s just another opportunity to get him going,” Campbell explained. “Brad (Holmes) and I will discuss it after we finish today.” He’ll be back out there practicing.”

The Lions have struggled defending the pass without Gardner-Johnson, but in recent weeks, they’ve found some success with Ifeatu Melifonwu starting at safety. With Kerby Joseph’s better play and nickel corner Brian Branch’s ongoing great play, the Lions are actually in a good position regardless of whether Gardner-Johnson returns this week.

Campbell stated that they might use their defensive backs in a variety of ways in the future.

“Iffy’s playing really good football, and, look, Kerby’s doing a really good job,” Campbell went on to say. “Everyone just thinks, ‘Is it Iffy or C.J.?'” Why? Why would you think that? So, when he returns, we’ll have options. We have a lot of possibilities. We have football players and playmakers, so it’s a good problem to have.”

If Gardner-Johnson gets activated for this game, expect a notification on Saturday afternoon, before their game in Dallas later that night.
