With highly-touted English young gun Jack Welsby signing a long-term contract extension with St Helens, Shane Flanagan’s bungled recruitment effort at St George Illawarra has taken another damage.
Since making his debut in 2018, the 22-year-old has been widely considered as one of the top talents in the Super League, with his electrifying pace and ability to cover several positions aiding his club to three titles.
Welsby was also instrumental in St Helens’ surprising 2023 World Club Challenge triumph against the Panthers, scoring the opening try against the NRL juggernauts at BlueBet Stadium and introducing himself to the larger rugby league world.
