As the trade period comes to an end, Fremantle forward Lachie Schultz may find himself returning to Victoria.
The 25-year-old shocked the football community on Monday night when he made public his desire to relocate to Collingwood.
Given that Schultz was cut and re-listed as a rookie by the Dockers earlier in the season, he is an unrestricted free agency at the end of the next year. Schultz’s contract was set to expire in 2024. Fremantle can force the 25-year-old to play out the remaining year on his contract, even though it is what he has requested.
It’s known that Schultz considered moving and informed Fremantle of his desire, in part because he was drawn to his hometown. But there may be more to his possible exit than just familial matters.
