Lynch has matured into a reliable pass rusher in his two years with the 49ers. He has 12.5 sacks in 30 career games and tied for the team lead with 6.5 last season.

Lynch had the fifth highest pass-rush efficiency among 3-4 outside linebackers last year, after just Pernell McPhee, Justin Houston, DeMarcus Ware, and Von Miller, according to Jeff Deeney of Pro Football Focus.

Lynch’s four-game absence is a heavy blow to San Francisco’s defence, which is still rebuilding its skill pool. The 23-year-old is a star and appears prepared to take another step ahead in his development.
