Trending news: Roosters Player Insisted To Leave Due To

NRL players have been chastised for demanding consequences for Roosters forward Spencer Leniu ahead of his court appearance, fearing he would not receive a fair hearing.

Leniu was brought immediately to the judiciary for an alleged racist slur hurled at Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam in Round 1, with players backing Mam while criticising Leniu before due process was completed.

On Tuesday night, league writer Brent Read disclosed that Leniu’s management was concerned that the public scrutiny surrounding the issue would prevent his client from receiving a fair hearing.

“Players shouldn’t be commenting on or suggesting he is guilty or saying he should be suspended for half the season,” Read said in a statement.

“I think that’s too far. I don’t mind them coming out to support Ezra Mam. I have no problem with that. They are well within their rights.
