Don Sweeney, general manager of the Boston Bruins, announced on Thursday that defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Pavel Zacha have both been placed on injured reserve.

McAvoy was pulled in the third period of Thursday’s 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, while Zacha was pulled in the second period of Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

In 21 games, McAvoy has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, ranking first among Bruins defensemen and sixth among Bruins skaters. Long Beach, New York native was chosen by Boston in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. McAvoy signed an eight-year, $78,000,000 contract extension with the Bruins in 2021, with an average annual value of $9,500,000 that runs through 2029-2030. McAvoy has 44 goals and 203 assists for 247 points in 410 games with the Bruins.
