Don Sweeney, general manager of the Boston Bruins, announced on Thursday that defenseman Charlie McAvoy and forward Pavel Zacha have both been placed on injured reserve.
McAvoy was pulled in the third period of Thursday’s 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, while Zacha was pulled in the second period of Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes.
In 21 games, McAvoy has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, ranking first among Bruins defensemen and sixth among Bruins skaters. Long Beach, New York native was chosen by Boston in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. McAvoy signed an eight-year, $78,000,000 contract extension with the Bruins in 2021, with an average annual value of $9,500,000 that runs through 2029-2030. McAvoy has 44 goals and 203 assists for 247 points in 410 games with the Bruins.
Zacha has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 26 games this season, ranking fourth among Bruins players. Last season, the Brno, Czechia native set a career high with 57 points and six assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. Zacha signed a four-year, $19,000,000 million contract extension with the Bruins in January, with a $4,750,000 cap hit.

Meanwhile, the Bruins have recalled forward Patrick Brown and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon on an emergency basis from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
Brown has appeared in eight games for the Bruins this season, recording one assist. The 31-year-old has appeared in 146 NHL games for the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins, totaling 25 points.
Wotherspoon has made three appearances for Boston, recording one assist. In 19 games with Providence, the Surrey, British Columbia native scored five points.
On Friday, the Bruins will take on the New York Islanders.
