Arik Armstead, the best defensive player for the San Francisco 49ers, has left supporters perplexed after he “decided to become a free agent.” He declined the offer of a new contract to remain with the organization.
It is stated that in order to remain with the team, Armstead refused a pay cut. He wanted to be released go immediately so he could consider his choices when the free agency period begins this week, rather than altering his present contract.
For the last nine years, the 30-year-old has been a reliable interior player for the 49ers, recording 33.5 sacks and 88 quarterback hits. This week, he’s probably going to land a large deal on the open market.
It will now be up to the Niners to identify a replacement for Armstead, while
The Niners need to keep in mind that in addition to offering Bosa a massive contract, offensive tandem Brock Purdy and Brandon Aiyuk will likely request a new deal in the upcoming off-season, possibly involving top dollar to remain in San Francisco.
Unfortunately, the Niners won’t have much more salary cap space after letting Armstead go since they still need to make changes to their current squad in order to have money to spend on free agency.
Last year, the squad very almost missed the Super Bowl by failing to advance to overtime when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs scored the game-winning touchdown.
