The Michigan Wolverines are removing one of their most vehement rivals’ main assistant coaches.

Multiple reports state that Michigan is adding Tony Alford, a former Ohio State running backs coach, to the staff of new head coach Sherrone Moore for the same position.

In addition to serving as the running backs coach and associate head coach under current head coach Ryan Day and his predecessor, current FOX Sports college football commentator Urban Meyer, Alford, 55, had been a member of Ohio State’s coaching staff since 2014. Alford served as a member of the Notre Dame coaching staff from 2009 to 2013.

Last season, Michigan defeated Ohio State 30–24 at Ann Arbor, Michigan’s third straight series victory after losing the first eight meetings and 15 of the previous 16. After winning the Big Ten for a record three times in a row, the Wolverines proceeded to the College Football Playoffs, where Michigan emerged victorious for the first time since 1948 and earned its first national championship since 1997.
