A few weeks back, I made a list of forwards that I thought the New Jersey Devils needed to improve on if they were to make a run for one of the wild card places. Timo Meier was, of obviously, the most important person. If the Devils were going to get any internal spark from the forward position, he could easily supply the biggest by just playing like the star that he was signed to be. Up until now, he had been playing much below the enormous contract that he got in the offseason.And he has done just that, almost unexpectedly, since then. His play over the past three weeks has been excellent and far more representative of the player the Devils have sought all season—one who is earning a cool $8.8 million annually. Meier leads this offensive in points since I published the article on February 24. In the ten games since then, he has scored 14 points, with 11 of those points coming from 5 on 5 plays. You outperform everyone else on the team with it. The only other players with at least 10 points during that time are Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes, who both have 8 points, and neither of them is even close in terms of 5 on 5 points.Surprisingly enough, he has since accomplished just that. The Devils have been able to see more of the player they have been wanting all season—the one earning a cool $8.8 million annually—in the last three weeks of hockey. Meier has led this attack in points scored over the last ten games since I published the article on February 24. Of those scores, 11 have come from 5 on 5 plays. Compared to the rest of the team, that is superior. The only others with at least 10 points during that period are Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes, however neither of them is even close in terms of 5 on 5 points, with Nico having 8 points.
