Following his ejection during the first period of his team’s 7-0 loss against the Lightning on Saturday night, Flyers head coach John Tortorella was given a two-game suspension and a $50,000 fine.
Sunday night, the NHL made its judgment public, claiming that Tortorella had engaged in “unprofessional conduct directed at the officials by refusing to leave the bench area after being assessed a game misconduct.”
The Flyers’ home games against the Sharks on Tuesday and the Maple Leafs on Thursday will not be coached by Tortorella.
The NHL foundation will receive the proceeds from his fine.
Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO and Flyers governor Dan Hilferty told Flyers Pre and Postgame Live analyst Al Morganti that he will cover Tortorella’s fine.Just 10:49 remained in the Amalie Arena game before Tortorella received the death penalty.
