On Sunday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils did not have good luck.
The club suffered a 3-1 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights at The Fortress. Devils goaltender Jake Allen performed admirably in his second start. Unfortunately, his squad did not deliver the goal support he need.
Dawson Mercer scored less than two minutes into the game, beating opponent goalie Logan Thompson. The play was initially examined for a distinctive kicking motion. Following a review, it was found that there was no kicking motion, and the goal was satisfactory.
The Golden Knights’ coaching staff promptly called for goaltender interference. Timo Meier’s interference with
Thompson resulted in the goal being waived off.
After 20 minutes, Allen has 13 saves out of 13.
The teams skated to their respective changing rooms during the first interval.
The Golden Knights blasted ten shots at Allen in the middle frame, but the veteran stopped every shot. According to MSGN’s Leo Scaglione Jr., Allen has made 57 straight stops after conceding two goals on the first three shots he saw against New Jersey.
After 40 minutes, the score remained tied at 0-0. Meier had three shots on goal, more than any other Devils skater.
Nico Hischier gave the Devils a 1-0 lead only 38 seconds into the third period. It was unassisted. The young skipper has scored goals in consecutive games versus Vegas.
