BREAKING: Alabama Basketball has confirmed him as the new assistant coach.

Oats’ new deal is his third extension in five years as Alabama’s head basketball coach.

 

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — The UA System Board of Trustees authorised a new contract for Alabama head basketball coach Nate Oats on Monday afternoon.

The contract, which extends Oats’ tenure until March 14, 2030, places him among the top five highest-paid college basketball coaches, with an annual salary of $5 million in the first year and increasing to $7.55 million in the last year. His buyout was also enhanced, to $18 million during the first two years.

Oats has seen tremendous success since joining the Crimson Tide in March of 2019. He has a record of 113-53,

During his stay at Alabama, he became the fastest head coach to reach 100 wins in Alabama basketball history this season.

Alabama was picked to participate in the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, making it the Crimson Tide’s fourth consecutive appearance under Oats. Alabama has finished in the top six of all four tournaments.

During his time at Alabama, Oats led the team to two Sweet Sixteens, two SEC regular season titles, two SEC tournament victories, six NBA draft picks, and two SEC Player of the Year awards.

Oats has received three contract extensions throughout his time in Tuscaloosa. He was already extended in the spring of 2021 and February 2023, prior to today’s extension. All
