CONTRACT NEWS: The 49ers landed another top free agent this morning.

In the Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers were defeated yet again by the Kansas City Chiefs. While last month’s overtime loss was heartbreaking, it demonstrated that San Francisco remains a regular competitor under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers’ 2023 run also shows that Brock Purdy is the future quarterback—and, unlike last offseason, Purdy is not recuperating from a major injury.

The coaching staff is set, the core is solid, and San Francisco should be able to make another deep playoff run in 2024. However, Shanahan and general manager John Lynch still have work to do this summer.

That work will begin at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, when free agency officially opens. Here’s a last-minute look at the 49ers’ top needs, prominent free agents, prospective targets, and cap situation.
