To improve their lineup, the Chicago Cubs should consider signing a 10-year veteran who appeared in the World Series last season, as there are limited possibilities on the market.
In 2023, Tommy Pham had a.256/.328/.446 batting line in 129 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Pham and the San Diego Padres were discussing a deal, although it has yet to be finalised. This provides an opportunity for the Cubs to work out a last-minute deal to add a much-needed offensive talent.
Pham has always played in the outfield and may not want to be a designated hitter.
The need for Pham is evident, especially given Chicago’s goals this year. With the playoffs as their aim, they don’t want to look back and wish they had done more in the offseason.
Assume Cody Bellinger doesn’t have the season he had in 2023, Seiya Suzuki doesn’t hit like he did in the second half of last year, and others don’t step up.
If such is the case, this offence will not be nearly as good as it has to be to accomplish what the organisation hopes for.
