Alexander Holtz scored a goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins while playing with Jack Hughes and Erik Haula for the New Jersey Devils, earning accolades from his temporary head coach.

Hughes and Holtz are finally playing together.Two players that perfectly compliment one another’s games. Hughes is an excellent skater and even better playmaker. He enjoys skating with the puck in transition and in the offensive zone. Holtz possesses a devastating shot. He’s powerful and precise with both his wrist shot and one-timer. Holtz’s quick release and ability to get open in high-danger situations could result in many goals off Hughes’ deliveries.

Holtz made a mistake that resulted in the Penguins’ opening goal, although he was not disciplined as he had been previously. Punishing young athletes for mistakes can be effective. It can elicit a response from the player to focus and avoid making the same error again, but it does not always work. For Holtz, the last game demonstrated that trusting a young player to play through a mistake can be effective. A coach must strike a balance between igniting a player’s passion and demonstrating trust in order to boost their confidence. Interim HC Travis Green revealed why he had faith in the young Swede.
