That does not, however, imply that the Raiders will be without a quarterback when they exit the first round. The Athletic’s Ben Standig hatched a deal wherein Las Vegas sends the Detroit Lions their No. 29 pick in exchange for their No. 44, No. 112, and a 2025 third-round pick that may become a second-rounder. The Raiders would choose Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. with that selection.
In a mock draft published on March 25, Standig stated, “From the polish in the pocket, striking on deep throws and deftly evading sacks, two league sources rank the southpaw among the top three quarterback prospects.” The Heisman runner-up’s mobility issues, inconsistent throwing, and injury history caused another scout to rank him sixth.

Penix is coming off a spectacular season as the Huskies’ quarterback, throwing 36 touchdowns and leading the club to the National Championship game. He isn’t anticipated to be chosen in the top half of the first round, despite this.
