Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Police Superintendent Larry Snelling have announced a slew of new preventative initiatives to combat an increase in robberies as the summer and warmer weather approaches.

The Chicago Police Department’s new victim-centered approach, launched on Friday, will use technology to track down auto thieves, who then use the stolen vehicles to conduct more crimes.

“We are using technology such as license plate readers and pod cameras to locate and apprehend those responsible for those robberies and car thefts,” said Chicago Police Department Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti.
