The Chicago Cubs needed a power hitting lefty in their lineup as Cody Bellinger was still on the open market. However, they were unsure if they could match his asking price.
So the front management reacted and orchestrated a trade that netted them Michael Busch and reliever Yency Almonte.
Busch was the top prospect for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he had limited opportunities due to Freddie Freeman at first base, Max Muncy at third, and Shohei Ohtani as designated hitter.
So they traded him to the Cubs in exchange for some lower-level prospects, who will now continue their development in a solid farm system.
