The University of Denver stunned the NCAA hockey world on Saturday (April 13), upsetting No. 1 seeded Boston College 2-0 to win the National Championship. BC was regarded as the apparent favourites for the game, boasting some of the game’s brightest prospects in Cutter Gauthier, Gabe Perreault, Will Smith, Ryan Leonard, and Jacob Fowler. However, Denver snatched the game, thanks in large part to goalie Matt Davis.
Davis, 22, was outstanding for Denver versus BC, recording a 35-save shutout to lead the team to its 10th national championship. His best save, however, came against Leonard. The Capitals’ 2023 first-round pick had a wide-open net, but Davis made an incredible diving glove save to keep him out.
