Pete Carroll’s 14-year spell in charge of the NFC West team came to an end this offseason, with the team hiring former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator as their new head coach.
As Smith prepares for his sixth season in Seattle and 12th campaign in the NFL, he has a new face in the quarterback room after his team landed former Commanders QB Sam Howell in a trade.
But despite a new coaching team and fresh competition for his place in the starting line-up, Smith insists he will not change his approach to the new campaign.
“New coaching staff, old coaching staff, I’ve got everything to prove,” Smith told the Seahawks website. “That’s the way I wake up every day. I’m competing with Sam. I know he’s competing with me. I’m going to compete my butt off. I’m going to compete with everybody in this building to be the best that I can be.”
Smith also touched on Macdonald’s appointment, insisting that his teammates are all ‘buying in’ to the new man’s methods.
“The real thing is you gotta buy in,” he added. “No matter who the coach is, no matter who’s leading this thing, you gotta buy in. And all the guys have got to buy in and that’s the key message. Right now, I feel like that’s what’s happening.”
