JUST IN: Ducks has announces the departure of three key players…

One of Oregon’s most promising young defensive backs is departing the program.

Cole Martin, a true freshman, has joined the transfer portal. On Tuesday afternoon, he revealed his decision to the NILX management group.

“Above all, I want to thank OG…Coach Meat for instilling confidence in me day in and day out,” Martin stated in his farewell message. “The time I spent being taught by you was invaluable; thank you for shaping me into the player and person I am today. Last but not least, thank you, Lord, for shaping me through all the good and problems that life presents. With that said, I’ve decided to put my name in the transfer portal.”

Martin played more snaps than any other true freshman defensive back this season, appearing in all 14 games. He ended the season with 21 total tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup.

Pac-12's crazy final football weekend: Oregon aiming for CFP spot

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back spent the year playing cornerback, nickel, and safety for the Ducks, with the most of his playing time coming against Arizona State and the Pac-12 Championship against the Washington Huskies when Oregon’s cornerback depth was strained by injuries.

Martin, a native of Pasadena, California, attended Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona, where he rose to prominence as a four-star prospect (0.9144 per 247Sports Composite). He signed with the Ducks as one of five cornerbacks for the 2023 recruiting cycle (high school and transfer portal).
