The neighboring Atlanta Braves’ game against the New York Mets on Wednesday night was postponed, which will not be to the delight of those watching the weather in anticipation of the opening round of the prestigious Masters competition.
Due to “inclement weather,” the game was postponed while a strong downpour moved into Georgia.
Augusta National is 150 miles away from Atlanta, where tomorrow’s game is expected to go ahead as planned. On the other hand, the course can sustain harm from the standing water.
Playing golf requires clean conditions, particularly at the top level. Although it is not unheard of for a golf tournament to be postponed to a Monday finish, this would be a huge letdown for what is perhaps the largest annual event in the sport.
It is predicted that there will be heavy rain on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. As the first players are scheduled to tee off at 8 am Eastern, thunderstorms are predicted to move into the area.
