BREAKING NEWS: Yankees are bringing him back

One of the New York Yankees’ best pitchers may end up leaving in the offseason.

For the past few seasons, New York has possessed one of the strongest bullpens in baseball, largely because to closer Clay Holmes’s success. Despite not having the most well-known name in the world, he has skyrocketed to fame after joining the Yankees.

Even though this is the case, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports that he may still leave the team in free agency because negotiations for a contract extension have not yet begun with New York.

“Then the conversation turned to his future,” stated Kuty. Holmes, who is usually reserved, seemed less excited. No, with free agency approaching in the winter, the Yankees hadn’t contacted him this offseason about a potential deal. Although he’s making every effort to block it out, he acknowledged that he can’t “totally ignore” the fact that it will happen.

“I’ve got a lot of good relationships here with coaches and players, and I’m just enjoying that and enjoying where I’m at right now,” Holmes stated. “We’ll discuss what happens when the time comes for me to no longer be a Yankee. But I’m going to attempt to help us win as many games as I can from where I am right now.”
