Three days after entering the transfer portal, former Alabama center Seth McLaughlin has already found a new school to call home.
McLaughlin told Hayes Fawcett of On3.com he has committed to play for Ohio State in 2024.
“I really like the offensive line coach, Coach Frye and trust him to get me to where I want to go as a player.”
Following Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff Semifinal, McLaughlin was one of nine players on the team to enter the transfer portal.
McLaughlin’s play against the Wolverines was a key talking point after the game. He had multiple off-target snaps to quarterback Jalen Milroe, including a low one on the final play of the game that allowed Michigan to stop the run on 4th-and-3 to preserve the 27-20 overtime win.
During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show (h/t Mike Rodak of 247Sports.com), Nick Saban attributed the snap issues to McLaughlin being confused by a noise that sounded like a clap.
“Michigan was not clapping, but our center was thinking that somebody was making a noise that sounded like clapping,” Saban said. “And he was snapping the ball early sometimes and when we weren’t ready sometimes. That’s a huge issue for our quarterback.”
There was also a key moment in the Iron Bowl against Auburn when there appeared to be a timing mishap between McLaughlin and Milroe that resulted in a bad snap on 2nd-and-goal from Auburn’s eight-yard line.
Milroe ultimately bailed the offense out in that game with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond on 4th-and-goal to give the Crimson Tide a 27-24 win.
A 3-star prospect coming out of Buford High School in 2020, McLaughlin appeared in 35 games over the past three years and started all 14 games this season. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
