The Philadelphia Phillies appear to be closing the chapter on Nick Castellanos’ time with the team. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the veteran outfielder has been instructed not to report to spring training, with expectations that the organization will either trade or release him within the next couple of days.

Castellanos has been mentioned in trade discussions throughout the offseason, but no deal has materialized so far. With options narrowing, the Phillies are reportedly willing to consider releasing the former All-Star if a trade cannot be finalized, though the team is still exploring potential deals.

The 2025 season saw Castellanos’ role with the club shrink, a development he was reportedly unhappy about despite continuing to contribute whenever called upon. Philadelphia’s offseason moves have further limited his path to regular playing time. The team signed Adolis García to take over a corner outfield spot, while Kyle Schwarber was re-signed to serve primarily as the designated hitter.

Given the current roster construction, Castellanos would likely be limited to a platoon role alongside players like Brandon Marsh or serve as a bench option if he were to remain with the team, making a separation increasingly likely.
